Here at the Leaf Trading Post we stock a range of natural raw materials such as antler, horn, beeswax, ochres, earth pigments, natural dyes, as well as things like sinew and rawhide. All of these things have been used in a variety of ways both historically and traditionally, and are still used today. We use many if not all of these natural raw materials ourselves, so we have good experience and a working knowledge of them. If there's a particular raw material that you're looking for and is not listed, contact us - we may either have it in the workshop, or know how to source it for you.

A tree resin that is soluble in water, this is ideal for making a base or binder for natural paints. It remains soluble in water after drying, so any painted surface can be washed clean, or can be coated with wax or varnish to make the paint waterproof. 50g.

To use, put the resin granules in a bowl and pour on boiling water. Stir occasionally and allow to cool. If you want a less brittle paint you can add a small amount of honey.

An excellent natural glue, and ideal for use with leather, wood and other natural materials. Rabbit skin glue and other hide glues have been used for centuries before the advent of modern alternatives, and are still used today by artists and traditional carpenters.  Small batches are made by soaking the granules in water overnight (1 part glue to 10 parts water), then heating the mixture gently and slowly until the glue is made. A double burner or bain marie is ideal for this. 50g.
